Balloon animals

Balloon animals, their not so very obscure history and their impact on the entertaining business

Balloon animals, those cuddly things that haunt my memory from those visits to any major theme park are a rather simple invention on their own. But as someone said there aren’t any simple things. Human ingenuity has transformed this field into a form of art.

As with all carnival art balloon animals can only be found in certain instances or at least they used to. In the past they were sold only in the places where the market was favorable, meaning that you should have kids and some parents distracted enough to pay for the whole thing. Zoos, theme parks, even regular parks were the right place. Nowadays though these public places seem more and more unattractive to the young generation .

Apparently though balloon animals have managed to evolve in this brave new world and the old artists began sharing their secrets on the world wide web. The trend has switched and nowadays you are invited to make your own. Learning this craft isn’t very hard, all you need are a hefty amount of balloons (the long type), some patience and some practice.

Of course some may wonder. Why make balloon animals in the first place? Well the Chinese have origami. Why is paper better than latex? It isn’t. There is probably a whole world out there waiting to be discovered and reinvented. Those balloon animals you saw in the theme park were just some toys. But think about it. The tools are there and with imagination and skill you can break brand new territory.

Balloon animal artists were never extremely interested in innovations, but this doesn’t mean that you should be the same. I mean really, if you are going to make balloon animals why not have some fun with it.

Altogether balloon animals are a nice hobby if you are looking for something different and new. If you have kids they will love them more than you do. Kids are like that I guess. You shouldn’t worry much about competition in the branch, because at this moment there is barely any. The most difficult challenge is to find the right supply of balloons, but you will find them eventually. So if you are looking for a brand new way to pass your time, why not go a little retro and take a trip down the memory lane..
